Debian Project Leader (DPL) Jonathan Carter has made the following comments this week:
Not true, if someone identifies with fascist doctrine, even if they keep those views off of the project channels, then they are not welcome here, no matter where they engaged in those kind of activities.
What does a fascist look like? Here is the definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
The people relentlessly screaming orders at Dr Stallman and the FSF board appear to be autocratic and dictatorial in many ways.
Let's annotate that definition with Debian terminology:
a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation (Debian) and often race (Debian Developers) above the individual (volunteers) and that stands for a centralized autocratic government (Debian Account Managers, Community Team) headed by a dictatorial leader (DPL), severe economic (money hidden from volunteers) and social regimentation (creation of tiers for volunteers, non-Developing Developer, Debian Maintainer, Debian Contributor, etc), and forcible suppression of opposition (look at the gangster hits against Daniel Baumann, José Manuel SantamarÃa Lema, Jacob Appelbaum, Dr Norbert Preining, Linus Torvalds and now Dr Richard Stallman)
Debian Community News was created to document the fascism that already exists in Debian every day.
